Two passengers in serious condition have arrived in the Netherlands to receive medical treatment following a confirmed outbreak of the deadly hantavirus on the cruise ship MV Hondius. The vessel's operator, Oceanwide Expeditions, confirmed that the individuals were evacuated from the ship to ensure they received specialized care. A third passenger, reported to be in stable condition, was also part of the evacuation plan, though their flight from the region faced an initial delay.[1][2]
The MV Hondius has since departed Cape Verde and is currently making its way toward the Canary Islands. The medical emergency prompted the ship to dock as authorities and the operator managed the health crisis. One of the three individuals evacuated for treatment in the Netherlands has been identified as a British man who began displaying symptoms while aboard the vessel.[1][2]
The outbreak of hantavirus, a severe respiratory illness, led to the immediate medical intervention for those most affected. Oceanwide Expeditions has been coordinating the logistics of the evacuation and the subsequent movement of the ship.
