Trump Claims Peace Deal with Iran and Opening of Strait of Hormuz 'Largely Negotiated'
President Donald Trump announced progress on a deal with Iran after consulting regional allies, though reports from Pakistan and Iran suggest further discussions remain

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a peace deal with Iran, which includes the opening of the critical Strait of Hormuz, has been "largely negotiated." Trump shared the progress of the negotiations on social media, stating that the final aspects and details of the agreement are currently being discussed and will be announced "shortly." However, the president did not provide a specific timetable for when the official announcement would be made.[1][2]
According to Trump, the progress on the deal was reached after a series of phone calls with regional leaders and allies. Trump stated that he had spoken with leaders from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, in addition to communicating with a Pakistani mediator to help pave the way for an agreement.[1][2]
The president's claims of a near-final agreement were tempered by other reports from the region. The prime minister of Pakistan expressed hopes of hosting more talks "very soon" regarding the situation. Meanwhile, Iran's Fars news agency reported that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian control, contrasting with the assertion that the strategic waterway would be opened under the negotiated deal.[1]
