5 must-see things at George Lucas's new Museum of Narrative Art as it opens to the public
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens in Los Angeles, showcasing works from Norman Rockwell to 'Star Wars' in a facility designed by Ma Yansong.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opens to the public on Tuesday in Los Angeles, unveiling a $1 billion project that has become the life's work of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson. Lucas has referred to the expansive museum as a "temple to the people's art" as the long-planned venue prepares to welcome guests.[1][2]
Inside the new facility, the institution presents an eclectic blend of both populist and fine art. The galleries highlight high and low art traditions, featuring pieces by Norman Rockwell and Banksy alongside a self-portrait by Frida Kahlo. The exhibits also include Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's painting "Poker Game," illustrating the museum's broad thematic focus on visual narrative.[1]
The venue's architecture and grounds offer additional distinctive sights for attendees. The building itself was designed by architect Ma Yansong and features a unique oculus that provides an open glimpse of the sky. Outside, visitors can examine various sculptures, including a scene depicting Princess Leia choking Jabba the Hutt from the film "Return of the Jedi."[1]
