Bengal ranks 2nd in PMFBY farmer enrolment: CM Adhikari
West Bengal has secured the second spot nationally in farmer enrolment under PMFBY, covering 32 lakh farmers, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said.
West Bengal now holds the second position in terms of farmer enrolment under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated on Saturday. Releasing the figures through a social media statement, the Chief Minister revealed that a total of 32 lakh farmers across the state have been brought under the insurance scheme's coverage.[1][2]
Highlighting the administration's support for the agricultural sector, Adhikari explained that the state government is bearing the bulk of the farmers' premiums directly from its own budget to safeguard them in the event of floods and natural calamities. To provide prompt relief, insurance companies have been directed to immediately assess the compensation due to farmers who were affected by the August floods to ensure speedy payment.[1][2]
In addition to the overall figures, the Chief Minister provided a district-wise breakup of the figures in his social media post. He noted that farmers were registered across the state on September 15, adding that a significant number of farmers have also been registered in flood-affected regions.[1]
