Kyle Shanahan Plans to Coach 49ers' Exhibition Opener Following Car Crash
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expects to coach Thursday's exhibition game as he nears full recovery from a July 14 car crash.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters during his first news conference of training camp, stating that he is nearly fully recovered from a car crash that limited his summer activities. Shanahan confirmed that he feels ready to return to the sidelines and fully expects to coach the team during their first exhibition game on Thursday night.[1][2][3][4]
Shanahan has been steadily working his way back to full speed following the summer car crash, which took place on July 14. The accident left the head coach with a wide range of physical injuries, including a concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose, and a broken hand. Furthermore, medical personnel had to place more than 40 stitches to close a cut above his eye.[1]
Despite the severe injuries suffered in the collision, Shanahan shared during his media session that he is now close to a complete recovery. He explained that he is dealing with just a few lingering symptoms from the concussion as he steps back into his leadership role for the 49ers ahead of Thursday night's preseason opener.[1]
