One year after Meta tapped Alexandr Wang to build a new artificial intelligence model, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is facing the challenge of having to sell the technology. Zuckerberg's mega spending spree began a year ago when he successfully lured Wang and a group of his top Scale AI engineers to oversee a brand-new AI strategy and revamp the company's overall artificial intelligence efforts. The financial cost of this initiative was substantial, with Meta spending over $14 billion to bring in Wang and his group of top Scale AI engineers to lead the project.[1][2]
While this massive investment has at least put Meta back on the map in the artificial intelligence landscape, the results of the strategy so far have been described as underwhelming. Meta still remains far behind its chief rivals in the artificial intelligence market, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Although Wang's big accomplishment was the delivery of the new AI model, Zuckerberg now has to sell it.[1][2]
