American Eagle targets malls and sororities for back-to-school sales

For this back-to-school season, American Eagle is shaking up its marketing playbook to reach a fragmented Gen Z audience. The retailer is filling college sorority houses with denim, sending content creators directly into shopping malls, and selling limited-edition jeans in its physical retail stores. Through these targeted efforts, the brand is attempting to turn the annual back-to-school shopping frenzy into a powerful engine for customer acquisition and denim sales.[1][2]

As part of its strategy to connect with distinct Gen Z subcultures, American Eagle is leaning on three brand ambassadors, including World Cup champion Lamine Yamal. By leveraging these ambassadors and tapping into viral social media phenomena like RushTok, the apparel company aims to engage younger consumers across multiple platforms and physical locations during one of the busiest retail periods of the year.[1][2]
