At Least 18 Dead as Record-Shattering Heatwave Sweeps Across Europe
Europeans brace for temperatures above 40 degrees as a ferocious heatwave claims at least 18 lives, including two young children found in a car in France
Europeans are bracing for a week of soaring temperatures, sweltering in a heatwave with daytime highs above 40 degrees. A large swathe of western Europe is suffering from the ferocious heatwave, which is forecast to shatter absolute temperature records. In response to the sustained and rising temperatures, a number of countries have issued alerts, warning that the extreme conditions present a danger to health.[1][2]
At least 18 people have died across the region as the heatwave smashes records. Among the casualties are two children, aged four and two, who were found dead inside their family's car in south-eastern France. The local prosecutor stated that while the exact causes of death are yet to be determined, the incident occurred as the intense heatwave hit the area.[1][2]
As the heatwave continues to smash records, daytime temperatures are expected to remain above 40 degrees. Health authorities in multiple countries remain on high alert, warning of the dangers associated with the sustained and rising temperatures. Meanwhile, investigations continue into the tragic deaths of the two young children in south-eastern France.[1][2]
