Atlanta Beltline Reaches a Transformational Milestone Twenty Years in the Making as 17 Miles of Continuous Mainline Trail Delivered
The completion of Southside Trail Segments 2 and 3 connects 36 Atlanta neighborhoods along a continuous 16.7-mile stretch of the planned 22-mile loop

On June 18, 2026, the Atlanta Beltline marked a historic and transformational milestone twenty years in the making by celebrating the delivery of nearly 17 miles of continuous mainline trail. The opening of Southside Trail Segments 2 and 3 connects the east and west sides of the Beltline, creating the longest completed continuous trail section open to date.[1][2][3][4]
This historic milestone reconnects 36 neighborhoods across five distinct corridors, including the Northwest, Westside, Southside, Eastside, and Northeast corridors. With the completion of Southside Trail Segments 2 and 3, the Atlanta Beltline now has 16.7 continuous mainline trail miles of its planned 22-mile loop.[1][2][3][4]
To celebrate the achievement, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, Atlanta Beltline, Inc. President and CEO Clyde Higgs, elected officials, and community members gathered to cut the ribbon on the new segments. The attendees acknowledged the opening of these segments as a giant milestone for the City of Atlanta.[1][4]
