Chinese Dissident Who Fled to South Korea in Dinghy Arrives in Canada
Chinese political dissident Dong Guangping has arrived in Canada after fleeing to South Korea in a dinghy, his friend says

Dong Guangping, a Chinese political dissident who fled to South Korea last month in a dinghy, has arrived in Canada, according to a social media announcement by his friend on Saturday. His friend, Sheng Xue, shared the news that Dong had landed in Toronto and posted photos of him. Dong, a former police officer, has faced multiple detentions in China for his political activism. During a court hearing in South Korea last month, he expressed his hope of reuniting with his family in Canada.[1][2][3][4]
Dong was detained by South Korea’s coast guard in May for allegedly violating immigration law after making the crossing. This crossing marked his fourth known attempt to flee China. Although his friend has shared photos of his arrival in Toronto, Canadian immigration authorities have not commented on his status or arrival.[1][2][4]
