Conan O’Brien to return as Oscars host for third year in a row
The Emmy-winning comedian will emcee the 99th Academy Awards in 2027 following two years of positive reviews and a recent dip in television viewership

Conan O’Brien is set to host the 99th Academy Awards in 2027, marking his third consecutive year as the master of ceremonies. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the decision on Tuesday, confirming that the Emmy-winning comedian will return to lead the event after hosting the previous two ceremonies to positive critical reception. O'Brien's tenure as the face of the Oscars is now being described as a trilogy by Academy leadership.[1][2]
The upcoming production will see the return of several key behind-the-scenes figures to ensure continuity for the 2027 broadcast. Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan are slated to produce the telecast for their fourth consecutive year. Additionally, Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney will serve as producers for the third year in a row, maintaining consistency in the show's creative leadership alongside O'Brien's hosting duties.[2]
The decision to bring O’Brien back comes as the Academy navigates shifting audience trends and engagement metrics. While the most recent ceremony saw a notable rise in social media engagement, traditional television viewership experienced a decline. During his opening monologue earlier this year, O’Brien remarked that he was honored to be part of the ceremony, which has continued to rely on his comedic style despite the fluctuations in broadcast ratings.[1]
