France Arrests Six Over Palestinian Flag On Eiffel Tower

French authorities arrested six people on Saturday for allegedly flying a Palestinian flag from the Eiffel Tower. According to a police source, the individuals were taken into custody after displaying the flag without the necessary authorization from city officials at the iconic Parisian landmark.[2]

The unauthorized display follows previous official symbolic actions taken at the site in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In October 2023, the Eiffel Tower was illuminated with the colors of the Israeli flag following the deadly attacks launched by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.[1]

The 2023 attacks by Hamas against Israel served as the catalyst for the Gaza war. The recent arrests for the unauthorized flag display come as the conflict continues to trigger public demonstrations and symbolic gestures at major international sites.[1]
