Google’s AI leadership comes apart in a single morning
Demis Hassabis and Jeff Dean are leaving top roles at Google DeepMind, prompting a drop in Alphabet shares following a memo from CEO Sundar Pichai.

Google announced major leadership changes within its artificial intelligence operations on Wednesday morning. According to an internal memo sent by CEO Sundar Pichai, Demis Hassabis is stepping down from his position as CEO of Google DeepMind. In the same announcement, chief scientist Jeff Dean is also stepping down from the tech giant after 27 years to co-found a new startup.[1][2]
The high-level executive changes at the company impacted investor sentiment. Following the announcement of the departure of both senior AI leaders in Pichai's Wednesday morning memo, shares of Google's parent company, Alphabet, fell by almost 4%.[1]
