Growing risk that thousands buried in Gaza’s rubble may never be identified, says Red Cross
The International Committee of the Red Cross warns that slow recovery efforts in Gaza increase the risk that thousands of buried victims will never be identified

The International Committee of the Red Cross has warned that the risk of thousands of Palestinians buried under the rubble in Gaza never being identified is increasing by the day. Recovery efforts in the region remain slow, leaving many victims unretrieved beneath the debris of destroyed buildings. The situation has raised significant concerns among humanitarian organizations regarding the long-term prospects of identifying the deceased.[1][2]
Pat Griffiths, the spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Jerusalem, stated that there is no doubt these bodies could soon become difficult to identify. As time passes, the likelihood increases that the remains will become skeletonised, which severely complicates the identification process. Griffiths emphasized that the longer it takes for human remains to be recovered from the rubble, the more difficult the task of identifying them becomes.[1]
