Hyundai, Kia Sell Over 100,000 EVs in Europe in First Half

Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. sold more than 100,000 electric vehicles in Europe during the first half of 2026 as both South Korean automakers expanded efforts to strengthen their regional market presence, the companies announced on Sunday. Overall European EV sales for the duo reached 131,032 units in the six-month period, representing a 41.8 percent gain compared to the 92,365 units recorded in the prior half.[1][2]

The sales performance was led by Kia's EV3 compact sport utility vehicle, which became the companies' bestselling EV model in Europe with 27,121 units sold. Hyundai's Inster subcompact SUV followed in second place with 16,594 units, while Kia's EV4 sedan ranked third with 14,502 units sold during the first six months of the year.[1]

If the current sales trajectory continues through the remainder of the year, annual EV sales in Europe are expected to top 200,000 units. Achieving that benchmark would mark the first time Hyundai and Kia have crossed the 200,000-unit threshold for electric vehicle sales in Europe since entering the region's EV market.[1]

This capital flight highlights growing investor anxiety over high debt levels used to fund aggressive data center expansions and rising Chinese competition.
