Iran Claims Missile Strike on US Ship as Trump Announces Project Freedom
Iran's semiofficial Fars News Agency reported a missile strike on a U.S. vessel shortly after President Trump announced plans for the Navy to guide trapped ships out of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran's semiofficial Fars News Agency, which maintains close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed that an unidentified United States ship was struck by two missiles near the port of Jask. The report of the alleged attack surfaced as regional tensions escalated following recent military developments in the Strait of Hormuz.[1][3]
The claim of a missile strike followed an announcement by President Donald Trump regarding a new operation titled Project Freedom. Under this initiative, the U.S. Navy is scheduled to begin guiding ships that have been trapped by the ongoing conflict out of the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday morning.[1][2][3]
President Trump characterized the upcoming operation as a humanitarian gesture intended to benefit the United States, various Middle Eastern countries, and specifically the country of Iran. Despite the reports from Iranian media, Trump asserted on his social media platform that his representatives were engaged in very positive discussions with Iranian officials.[1]
Iranian authorities have warned the United States to remain out of the Strait of Hormuz following the announcement of the U.S. naval mission. These developments follow a period of conflicting signals from the Trump administration, which had previously expressed concerns that Tehran had not yet faced sufficient consequences for its actions in the region.[1][2]
