Israel Says It Killed Hamas Military Leader Izz al-Din al-Haddad
The Israeli military announced the death of one of the last surviving architects of the October 7 attacks following an airstrike in Gaza City

The Israeli military announced that an airstrike conducted in Gaza City on Friday killed Izz al-Din al-Haddad, a high-ranking leader within the military wing of Hamas. The military confirmed that al-Haddad was identified as one of the last surviving architects responsible for planning the October 7, 2023, attacks against Israel, which served as the primary catalyst for the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.[1][2]
The initial October 7 attacks resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the abduction of more than 250 hostages who were taken into Gaza. In the subsequent retaliatory strikes and military operations launched by Israel, more than 71,700 people have been killed, according to the latest figures provided by the Gaza Health Ministry.[1]
Although a ceasefire was established in October, the region has continued to experience near-daily fire from Israeli forces. The targeted killing of al-Haddad comes during a period of heightened regional tensions and frequent mutual accusations between Israel and Hamas regarding violations of the existing ceasefire agreement.[1]
