Lionel Messi edged Argentina closer to back-to-back World Cup titles with two late assists in a dramatic 2-1 semi-final victory against England on Wednesday. The 39-year-old captain inspired the defending champions to overturn a one-goal deficit in the closing minutes of the match.[1]

During the late comeback, Messi set up Enzo Fernandez's equalising goal before providing the cross for Lautaro Martínez's match-winner. The victory books Argentina's place in Sunday's final, where they will face Spain.[1][2]
