Japan trade minister holds brief talks with Chinese counterpart amid diplomatic row
Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa is the most senior Japanese official to visit China since a diplomatic dispute erupted in November over comments regarding Taiwan
Japanese Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa has held brief talks with his Chinese counterpart, marking a significant development amid an ongoing diplomatic row between the two nations. Akazawa's visit makes him the most senior Japanese official to travel to China since the diplomatic dispute between the countries erupted in November.[1][2]
The meeting between Akazawa and the senior Chinese official represents the highest-level engagement between the two sides since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi triggered the row. The diplomatic dispute was initiated after Takaichi stated that a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a response from Tokyo.[1]
