Republican Support for Trump Shifts Amid Economic Concerns and Iran Conflict
A new AP-NORC poll reveals a decline in Republican approval of President Trump's economic handling, though his overall job rating remains stable during the ongoing war with Iran

A new AP-NORC poll indicates that while Republicans are increasingly dissatisfied with President Donald Trump's management of the economy, they continue to support his presidency overall. This shift comes as the United States remains engaged in a conflict with Iran, highlighting a divergence between economic sentiment and general political loyalty within his party. The findings suggest that his base remains largely behind him even as specific policy approvals fluctuate.[1][2]
According to the survey data, approximately 6 in 10 Republicans currently approve of how the president is handling the economy. This figure represents a significant decline from February, prior to the start of the war, when about 8 in 10 Republicans expressed approval of his economic performance. This erosion in economic confidence marks a notable change in how the president's core supporters view his fiscal leadership during the ongoing conflict.[1][2]
Despite the drop in economic ratings, the erosion has not significantly impacted the president's total job approval among his base. Roughly 7 in 10 Republicans still approve of his overall performance in the presidency, a figure that has remained consistent with levels recorded earlier this year. The poll also indicates that the president has recovered some ground in other areas as the war with Iran continues, suggesting that his supporters are maintaining their allegiance despite specific areas of concern.[1]
