Russia Launches 800 Drones at Ukraine Amid Peace Discussions
A massive daytime drone barrage across 20 Ukrainian regions killed at least six people and wounded dozens despite recent talk of potential peace negotiations
Russia launched a massive daytime barrage of at least 800 drones across approximately 20 regions of Ukraine on Wednesday. The extensive attack resulted in the deaths of at least six people and left dozens more wounded. This significant escalation in hostilities occurred despite recent high-level discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump concerning the potential for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.[1]
The prolonged assault began during the midmorning hours and lasted for several hours, striking various parts of the country. The drones targeted the capital city of Kyiv, as well as the western city of Lviv, which is located near the border with Poland. Additionally, the port city of Odesa on the Black Sea was hit during the wave of strikes, which affected nearly two dozen regions in total.[1][2]
The scale of the drone deployment represents one of the most significant aerial attacks in recent months, occurring during daylight hours when civilian activity is at its peak. Emergency services and local officials across the impacted regions worked to address the casualties and damage caused by the hundreds of incoming projectiles that spanned from the western borders to the southern coast.[1][2]
