Russia Reports Major Ukrainian Drone Attack Ahead of Victory Day
Moscow claims to have intercepted 347 drones across more than 20 regions following the rejection of a ceasefire proposal from Kyiv

Russia's Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 347 Ukrainian drones in a single overnight period. The massive aerial operation targeted more than 20 different Russian regions, including the capital city of Moscow. Officials characterized the strike as Ukraine's second-largest drone assault since the invasion began more than four years ago.[1][2]
The surge in drone activity follows Moscow's recent rejection of a ceasefire proposal offered by Kyiv earlier in the week. The timing of the strikes is particularly significant as they occurred on the eve of Russia's Victory Day, a major national holiday marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The proximity of the attacks to these high-profile celebrations has significantly heightened regional tensions.[1][2]
Due to the escalating security risks and the scale of recent aerial threats, Russian authorities have moved to scale back traditional military parades and public events associated with the Victory Day holiday. The decision to limit the scope of these annual commemorations reflects ongoing concerns regarding potential Ukrainian strikes on sensitive targets during the national period of remembrance.[1]
