Spirit Airlines shuts down, industry’s first Iran war casualty
The bankrupt discount carrier ceased operations on Saturday after failing to secure creditor support for a government bailout, resulting in thousands of lost jobs.

Bankrupt discount carrier Spirit Airlines officially ceased operations on Saturday, becoming the aviation industry's first casualty linked to the ongoing Iran war. The airline's collapse occurred after it was unable to secure the required creditor support for a United States government bailout plan designed to save the company.[1]
The failure of the discount airline will directly result in the loss of thousands of jobs. Spirit Airlines was unable to withstand the severe economic pressures caused by a doubling in jet fuel prices, which spiked during the two-month-old conflict in Iran. This rapid increase in operational costs, combined with the lack of creditor backing for the federal bailout, ultimately forced the carrier to shut down completely.[1][2]
