Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney, known in English as John, is remembered as the Saint of the Day for Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Born on May 8, 1786, in Dardilly, France, he was baptized on the very day of his birth. He grew up as the fourth of six children born to Matthieu and Marie Vianney in a devout Catholic household.[2]

During his youth, Vianney's family frequently assisted the poor and notably provided shelter to St. Benedict Joseph Labre during his pilgrimage to Rome. In 1790, the anticlerical Terror phase of the French Revolution escalated, forcing Catholic priests to conduct their ministry in secrecy or face execution.[2]
