The Government of Canada increases its funding for the St. Lawrence Shark Pavilion project as construction begins
The federal government is adding $700,000 to its investment in the Exploramer Museum's new shark pavilion in Quebec, bringing its total contribution to $3.8 million

During a groundbreaking ceremony in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, on May 26, 2026, officials officially marked the start of construction on the future St. Lawrence Shark Pavilion. Developed by the Exploramer Museum, this major project is dedicated to the discovery and promotion of sharks, a species that is becoming increasingly common in the St. Lawrence.[1][2]
To support the construction, the Government of Canada announced it is increasing its funding for the pavilion by $700,000, raising the total federal contribution from $3.1 million to $3.8 million. The government noted that building a strong Canada starts with investing in modern and reliable infrastructure, which helps to increase housing supply and create resilient communities.[1][2]
The Exploramer Museum's new pavilion is designed to boost tourism and stimulate the economy of the Gaspe Peninsula. Beyond its economic and tourism benefits, the project is also expected to enrich scientific discovery regarding the shark populations in the region.[1][2]
