British forces have intercepted a UK-sanctioned oil tanker in the English Channel that is accused of belonging to Russia's "shadow fleet." The operation, which took place on Sunday, was described by the country's defence ministry as "the first UK-led operation of its kind."[1]
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the captured vessel has been identified as the Smyrtos. The operation to secure the suspected shadow fleet tanker lasted for six hours.[2]
