US Mediates Ceasefires for Israel-Lebanon and Russia-Ukraine
The United States has helped broker a 45-day ceasefire extension between Israel and Lebanon, alongside a separate three-day truce and prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine.

The United States has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 45-day extension of their ceasefire agreement. According to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, the extension follows two days of productive talks between the parties, with further negotiations scheduled to take place on June 2 and June 3.[1][10][11]
The extension arrives at a critical time, as regional tensions remain high. The ongoing situation threatens to tip the Middle East back into open warfare, which officials warn could further prolong the worldwide energy crisis originally sparked by the conflict.[1]
In a separate international development, United States President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day, US-mediated ceasefire. The truce is scheduled to last from May 9 to May 11, coinciding with Russia's annual Victory Day celebrations.[2][3][4][7][8][9]
Trump shared the announcement on the social media platform Truth Social, noting that the two countries will also exchange 1,000 prisoners of war. The conflict has been ongoing for more than four years, and Trump suggested this halt to hostilities could be the beginning of the end of the war. However, skepticism persists over whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to commit to a more permanent peace deal.[2][5][6]
