WHO links 1,300 excess deaths to record European heatwave
The World Health Organization warns that Europe is unprepared for extreme temperatures as Germany hits a record 41.7C

The World Health Organization reported on Sunday that a record-breaking heatwave in Europe has been linked to more than 1,300 excess deaths since June 21. The extreme weather has shattered temperature records across the continent, with Germany reaching a historic high of 41.7C. The high temperatures have raised serious concerns about the health and safety of populations across the affected regions.[1][2]
In France, health officials reported on Sunday that the country had experienced around 1,000 more deaths than expected since Wednesday, highlighting the severe impact of the heatwave. Following these developments, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that European nations are not adequately prepared to cope with such extreme high temperatures.[1][2]
