Work-Life Balance is Top Priority for Hong Kong Workers, Randstad Finds
A new study by Randstad reveals that work-life balance has surged in importance for Hong Kong employees, serving as a primary driver for both attraction and retention
On June 16, 2026, global talent company Randstad revealed early findings from its 14th annual Employer Brand Research in Hong Kong SAR. The study highlights that work-life balance continues to reign as the top employee value proposition for local talent. Its importance has surged by 10% over the last two years, with 56% of respondents prioritizing it in 2026 compared to 46% in 2024. Furthermore, career progression has entered the top five employee value propositions for the very first time.[1][2]
The struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance is also a primary reason employees choose to depart their current roles. The research identifies poor work-life balance, uncompetitive compensation and benefits, and limited career growth as the top three turnover drivers in the region. According to the study, while 56% of workers desire work-life balance, 38% have actually left a job because of it.[1][2]
Mobility trends within the Hong Kong workforce show that 30% of Hongkongers plan to change jobs, with this desire peaking at 32% among Gen Z employees. In contrast, 14% of workers are looking to secure internal transfers within their current companies, a preference that is highest among Millennials at 16%.[1][2]
