Zilliz Launches Loon Storage Engine to Power Unified AI Data Platform
The creator of Milvus has introduced Loon, a lake-native storage engine designed to let a single copy of vector data serve real-time search, large-scale discovery, and batch analytics

Redwood City, California-based AI data infrastructure company Zilliz, the creator of Milvus, recently announced the launch of Loon. Loon is a new storage engine designed to power the Zilliz Vector Lakebase. The new engine is scheduled to ship in Milvus 3.0.[1][2]
Loon serves as a lake-native foundation that allows a single copy of vector data to handle multiple operations. By utilizing this single copy, the engine can support real-time search, large-scale discovery, and batch analytics all at once.[1][2]
This technology serves as the storage layer driving the evolution of Zilliz Cloud. With Loon, Zilliz Cloud is transitioning from a vector database into a unified data platform designed to serve every AI workload.[1][2]
