Kushner and Witkoff to Resume Iran Peace Talks in Pakistan
President Donald Trump is sending envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Islamabad to meet with Iran's foreign minister as the conflict enters its eighth week
President Donald Trump is sending Middle East envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan to resume negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war with Iran. The conflict, which has now lasted nearly eight weeks, has prompted this latest high-level diplomatic push in Islamabad. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the envoys' travel plans on Friday, marking a significant step in the administration's efforts to resolve the escalating regional crisis.[1]
The American delegation is scheduled to meet with Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, in the Pakistani capital to discuss potential terms for a ceasefire or peace agreement. Kushner, who serves as the president's son-in-law, and Witkoff are tasked with navigating the complex peace talks as the war continues to impact the Middle East. This meeting is part of a broader diplomatic effort as the Iranian foreign minister embarks on a multi-nation tour.[1]
Notably, Vice President JD Vance will not be joining Kushner and Witkoff for this specific round of discussions in Islamabad. According to administration reports, the vice president will instead remain on standby, prepared to return to Pakistan for future negotiations if his presence is required to advance the peace process. This arrangement allows the primary envoys to lead the initial restart of talks with the Iranian leadership.[2][3]
