Painters and Dockers 'doing time' at Docklands

In the early 2000s, photographer Bill McAuley captured an image of the Australian pub rock band Painters and Dockers at Melbourne's old Docklands. Rather than being photographed "in the back of a Divi van," the members of the veteran band were depicted looking a tad ominous in the historic Melbourne location.[1][2]

McAuley had previously become good mates with the band's frontman, Paulie Stewart OAM, who is positioned third from the right in the photograph. The friendship between the two developed when they both worked in the newspaper world. McAuley's career in news photography lasted for more than 40 years, having officially commenced in 1969 when he started working as a cadet photographer at "The Age" in Melbourne.[1]
