Police identify Cole Allen as suspect in White House dinner shooting
Law enforcement officials have identified 31-year-old Cole Allen as the suspect in a shooting incident targeting the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner
Law enforcement sources have identified the suspect in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner as 31-year-old Cole Allen of Torrance, California. Allen is described as a trained mechanical engineer who had been working as a tutor. He reportedly traveled across the country to reach the event held on Saturday night.[2][6]
The shooting took place just outside the ballroom where the dinner was being hosted. Allen was reportedly carrying multiple weapons and attempted to breach the security of the event to enter the room. Authorities stated that the suspect's goal was to perpetrate as much damage as possible during the high-profile gathering.[6][7]
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated on Sunday that President Donald Trump was the likely target of the shooting. While the investigation into Allen's motives continues, federal officials have not yet determined if the attack had any connection to foreign entities, specifically mentioning that a link to Iran is currently unknown.[3][5]
Witnesses at the scene included mentalist Oz Pearlman, who stated he had just finished introducing himself to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump when the gunman attempted to storm the ballroom. Security personnel and police were able to intervene and take the suspect into custody.[1][7]
