Slovenia, Ireland, and Spain Boycott Eurovision Over Israel's Participation
National broadcasters in three European nations will not air the Eurovision Song Contest this year, with Slovenia opting to broadcast films about Palestine instead

National broadcasters in Slovenia, Ireland, and Spain have announced they will not air the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The decision serves as a collective boycott of the world's largest live music event, specifically protesting the inclusion of Israel in the competition. This move marks a significant departure for the broadcasters, who typically participate in the widely viewed annual program.[1]
The Slovenian broadcaster RTV confirmed on Thursday that it will implement a total broadcasting blackout during the contest's scheduled time. In place of the musical performances, the station intends to show a series of films about Palestine. This decision follows Slovenia's earlier announcement that it would not submit a national entry for the contest, effectively removing the country from both the stage and the screen.[1][2]
This year's Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held from May 12 to May 16 in Vienna. While the event typically features a wide array of international performers, this year's competition is set to include 35 competing countries despite the withdrawal and broadcasting boycotts from these three nations. The event remains one of the most significant live music broadcasts globally, though it faces increasing political pressure.[1][2]
